Time to start thinking about sledding season...yes this is Donimator testing out my suspension on my F7 Firecat in Hurley, Wi.

The Bird

So I get the bird at least once every other time I drive my Hummer. Most of the time I ignore it, but occasional I will retaliate...Usually just by getting up next to them really close and scaring them, then they get really pissed. I have nothing against paper savin', tree huggin', bleeding heart liberals, but if you initiate a situation, you better be able to handle to consequences. I think its great that people want to express their opinions and beliefs, but if you do it in a manner that can be offensive, and you initiate it, then just be ready to handle to consequences.

So the next time you decide to flip off a hummer, just remember they may be having a bad day and decide to kick your ass, and also remember that YOU started it, so YOU deserve to get your ass kicked.

Singletrack, Crash, Singletrack, Fire, Fire, Fire

So Stoker and I made our 2006 debut on the tandem in Seeley this morning at the Pre-Fat. We entered the tandem division, which was the sport race due to "less singletrack" It was suppose to be 15 miles of snowmobile trails, doubletrack and fireroads...well kinda

The race started with the first mile on pavement out 00 and up a three tier climb, we decided to put it in the 52-11 and let it rip, we instantly put 20 seconds on the field (198 riders) We are thinking this is good, then we turn into some rocky double track and are rolling well, it rained 3.5 inches on Thursday so the course was a little slick. Three singles catch us as we are being cautious on the wet rocks. So we roll in 4th place for the next 5 miles. We cross back over 00 and we have a long climb, we catch 3rd and pass him on the climb, then we hit this tight, twisty, full of trees, rocks, and roots, technical single track. We get out of it still in third, but with 4th on our ass. The trail opens up for a mile or so and we left 4th place. Then singletrack and more singletrack and more singletrack...then our first crash on the tandem. We went around a tree and the back end sliding to the right and the front end was sliding to the left and timber... stoker and captain went down, no harm we get up and keep rolling through the singletrack. Trying to make up some time, I got a little too agressive on the shifting and we threw our chain into our spokes, it took us a minute or two to get it untangled...now we are in 8th! Damn Singletrack! So we get out of it and the sign says two miles to go, so we drop the hammer and pass two back, 1 mile to go, fourth is in sight, we climb a short steep hill by a railroad tressel and 600M to the finish. We drop the hammer and trying to close the 80 meters 4th and 5th had on us...we get close, but no cigar. We end up 6th, 3 seconds out of 4th. We were the first tandem team and were 28 minutes ahead of the next tandem team. Most people couldn't believe that we made it through the single track on the tandem, but we did. We are looking forward to the big one in three weeks, much easier than todays.

So what is the fire? It is the town hall in Springbrook. We were driving home and it just started on fire. So we pulled the hummer into the field right accross the street. By the time the Spooner Fire Dept showed up, the house next door was on fire, and the town museum was getting hot. So the first truck stops right in front of the fire, starts the pumps and then decides he is too close to the fire, so they start recruiting citizens to push the fire truck down the street, since I guess you can't start it when you are pumping water??? So get out and start pushing the fire truck in my flipflops. It was so hot I felt like my legs were in the fire, but we got it moved. Stoker stayed in the Hummer and video taped. Then the water tank truck came and ran over a mailbox, it was quite comical to watch.

Captain and Stoker will debut the Tandem Saturday in Seely, Wisconsin. A little tune up for that little race in mid September. Captain Midnight will have to wait till September 7th.....

Ok...Sickboy contacted me and said he will race, but wants 2nd place cash (basically an appearance fee for the loser), wants the winner to get the Cat 3 Keirin state champ medal, and wants to race the Keirin....

Lets figure what the most even race for these two is and get it on. I will personally put 50 bucks up for the winner of what ever race(s) we decide on...that is if these two boys decide to let their bikes do the talking instead of their trash talking.....and Donimator doesn't give a damn what state either of you is from.

Think we weren't? That was my first official Madison and it was good enough for a bronze, thanks Skibby for making me come to the track on Tuesday and practice, thanks Dave Gray for the wheels tonight. (I flatted in the win and out and Dave so graciously let me use his Hed disk and Hed Tri spoke wheels.) Congrats to SOHO and Ben "I like to grab the rail" Richter for winning the madison, they were flying.

What is up with Super Rookie and Sick Boy? They were talking trash and there is some bad blood right now....Drama at the drome, you got to love it!

MADISON:

The Madison is an event in track cycling, named after Madison Square Garden in New York, and known as the "American race" in French (course à l'américaine).
The race format is a variation of the points race. Teams of two (seldom three) compete, but only one rider needs to be racing at any stage. Periodically, the teams change riders by "tagging" their teammates, usually performing slingshot action with linked hands to transfer as much of their momentum as possible to the racing rider, though a team-mate may also be propelled into the race by a push of the rider's racing shorts. The non-racing team-mate then moves to the top of the circular banked track to recover before his next stint.
Team pairs are ranked according to laps gained or lost on their opposition and by points obtained by performing well in sprints which occur periodically during the race and are signalled by a bell on the preceding lap.

Why is grabbing the rail on lap one of a match sprint a "mishap" which requires a restart?

Definition of the match sprint:

The sprint is a track cycling event involving a one-on-one match race between opponents who, unlike in the individual pursuit, start next to each other.
At major championships, the title is decided on a 'best of three races' format. The initial races may involve more than two riders, with the winners automatically advancing to the next round while the losing riders get a second chance by competing in repechage races.
The event is sometimes called the 1000 metre sprint (reflecting the distance to be covered), but - unlike the sprints in athletics - cycling track sprinters do not usually start sprinting the instant the starting gun is fired. The early parts of each race will often be highly tactical with riders pedalling slowly, as they carefully watch each other and try to get their rivals to make the first move. Some even bring their bicycles to a complete stop (a track stand, a difficult skill, as their feet are strapped or clipped to the pedals of their cycles). The reason for this strange behaviour, like many track cycling events, is aerodynamics.
When racing at high speed, the rider who manages to stay just behind their opponent can 'slipstream', expending less effort (as they are riding through air that is being pulled along behind the 'lead out' rider, this reduces the speed of the wind the second rider feels). Just before the finish, the trailing rider pulls out of the slipstream, and using their fresher legs may be able to overtake their opponent just before the line. (Of course, some riders choose to accelerate quickly before the last lap, hoping to catch their opponents unawares and establish a large enough gap to negate the aerodynamic effect!)
Only the last 200 m is actually timed (on a 250 m track, the event would therefore involve four circuits of the track). The final 200 m is measured along a 'sprint line' close to the inside edge of the track. The 'lead out' rider will often hug this line forcing his opponent to come the long way round; he is not allowed to swing significantly off this line and deliberately impede his opponent.
Famous track sprinters of the past include Britain's Reg Harris, Australians Dunc Gray and Sid Patterson and Japan's Koichi Nakano.

Hey Super Rookie, this post is for you

Last Thursday at the track, super rookie was whining that I don't update my blog enough, so here you go Super Rookie, this is for you.

Stoker crashed at that 100,000 dollar crit this past weekend, but he is fine, so no worries.

Do you think captain midnight's jersey is fixed? Or does he have a spare one?

I am going to the track tonight to "practice" the madison, so Bob will let me race Thursday.

One wasn't enough!

J.T. decided that one jersey wasn't enough, so he went out and won another jersey in the team sprint tonight at the Seven Eleven Velodrome in Colorado Springs. (picture at left is from World Championships, but another national championship deserved more ink!)

Skibby and Stewart were in the madison, unfortunately, Stewart crashed and went to the hospital with a concussion. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Tainter Has STARS and STRIPES Biiooooootch!!!!

Loon State's very own James Tainter has won the masters national match sprint competition! No body deserves it more that JT, he has spent countless hours at the track and the gym and it all paid off!

All of you slackers out there, just remember that "luck favors the prepared"

I can't wait to see the stars and stripes Wednesday at the Minnesota state match sprint championships at the drome.

It's a good thing I ain't from ZAGREB, Croatia...

ZAGREB (Reuters) - A young Croat who posted a photograph of himself speeding on a motorbike on the Web was tracked down and fined by the police, the Jutarnji List daily reported Tuesday.
The 28-year-old, identified only as D.M., took a photo of his speedometer showing 170 km (100 mph) on a back road in northern Croatia and then put it on the Web site of his local municipality.
Police found him three days later.
"He was trying to be a hot shot. Guys like this may not know that the police scan the Internet. This is a warning to them not to play games on the road and threaten their own and others people's lives," the daily quoted police as saying.
In addition to the speeding ticket, the police also discovered the motorcycle had been illegally imported from neighboring Slovenia and was not registered -- likely leading to another hefty fine, the daily said.

Well the thing in my life that pays the bills required me to go to Denver, so I didn't race last week which means I didn't get relegated either. So since its been a little while, I figured I would stir things up and talk about the new law in Minnesota that says if you get caught going over 100 MPH, you lose your license for 6 months. That is a Bush League law. Yes I took the picture while I was driving, think I didn't? What else would you expect from the Donimator? I figure the snake gets about 7 MPG while doing 110.
