Border Battle and Avon RR
Two weekends ago I went and did the Border Battle. It was my first mtn bike race in 3 years excluding tandem. It was a lot more single track than I anticipated, but it was fun. I flatted on the third lap, took my time and changed it and finished.
This past weekend, I did the Avon RR Masters 35 plus. It had a decent climb in it which we had to go up 5 times. Usually I avoid races that require small chainring climbs, but decided to do it. The race finished with the 1k climb. I decided to big chainring it on the last lap and see what happened. Well I was good for 600M and then went Kaboom.

Life Time Tri / Hopkins Crit...the good, the bad, the ugly
Lifetime Tri The Good...
Finish Time: 2:19:50.4
Category Place: 1 out of 30 Clydesdale Men 30 to 39 finishers
Overall Place: 29 out of 1040 International Course finishers
Gender Overall Plc: 29 out of 745 Male finishers
The Bad....
I crashed with 4 miles to go on the bike. I just got done getting a drink of water and I smoked a pothole with one arm on the handlebars. I layed dow the bike at 30 mph. I wrecked my new 200 dollar TYR tri suit.
The Ugly....
Many spectators got a good look at my right ass cheek for 6.2 miles.
Decided to race Hopkins the next day, didn't feel too bad, didn't have any sprint in my legs, probably due to Tri, Crash, UFC 100 Party, but ended up 6th or 7th. Then when I warmed down and attempted to get off my bike, I barely could. My back tightened up bad. I haven't been able to run, swim, or bike since Sunday. It is getting better and I should be training again this weekend.

Lowry Bridge implosion
On my bike ride this morning, stumbled upon the Lowry Bridge implosion, didn't even know they were going to do it. We arrived 5 minutes before it went kaboom, pretty cool to see.

TRI Buff

It was a cold and damp affair this morning. I was pleased with my 15th overall (out of 878)place. I had the third fastest swim and 2nd fastest bike of the day. I was 155th in the run. This is just good Chequamegon training.
This weeks racing...Fairgrounds, Lake Harriet One Mile open water swim, and White Bear tri. Maybe the velodrome on Thursday, but that might be too much for one week.

Massacre on Machinery Hill Part 1

Well I was 8th overall in the B race. Average heart rate 172 Average Speed 23.9. I am not a big fan of the 180 degree turn, but it is what it is. 6 guys ended up off the front, there was 8 or so of us chasing 30 seconds back. One guy took a flyer with a lap to go and held it, and I won the so called field sprint of the small chase group.
It was a good workout. PattyCakes said it best tonight, "there is no way you can go average 172 heartrate for 40 minutes by yourself on a training ride"

Double Down for the weekend
I did a 5k on Saturday and my max heart rate was 185. I did black dog today and my max heart rate was 182. I would agree that the 5k is harder than the blackdog, but not by much.
New bike worked well today
Question of the day? Is Twitter going to be the killer of blogs?

Close but no Cigar
I went 50.6 tonight in the 100 free. I was hoping to break 50, but no such luck. I went out in a 23.66, which is where I wanted to be. Just couldn't finish the final 12 yards. I am happy with the effort considering what shape I was in 3 months ago. I was second in my age group and 5th overall. Tomorrow I am swimming the 50 and 200 free and then finishing up the meet with the mile (66 lengths of the pool)
